Earth Month

April showers bring May flowers, and May brings final exams. More than simply marking the end of classes (Friday, April 26th), April also is Earth Month!

Dating back to 1970, both Earth Month and Earth Day (this year falling on Monday, April 22nd) have become times on which we focus our energies on our environment and the things that we can do to make it better.

Here at UT Knoxville, we take our Earth Months seriously – filling the days and weeks with events, activities, and programs all promoting the work we do year-round to Make Orange Green. Take a look at the events you can take part in here on campus and in the greater Knoxville community.

“Make Orange Green” Events

These events are run through our office or in partnership with one of our many on-campus partners. All of the below events will be “Green Events“, meaning they will run efficiently and keep the environment in mind in all aspects of the event process.

If you have questions about any of the below events contact Carolyn Brown.

Come see just how easy it is to turn those unwanted shirts into tote bags, grocery bags, beach bags, so many great bags! We will have a supply of shirts available for people to make and take, but we encourage you to bring your own as well!

They can make ugly, forgotten land beautiful and useful again; restore plant and wildlife populations; nourish and feed the soil, people and animals; bring communities together, educate and – importantly – bring joy.

This is a Make & Take workshop; we will show you how to make seed bombs, help you choose good seed combinations, and talk about where and how to deploy these little green revolutions. We will be focusing on local native wildflowers, including some that are endangered or threatened in our area, as well as pollinator friendly varieties!
