Alternative Fuel Vehicle Assistance Program

$100,000 is available each fiscal year (July 1 – June 30) for the Alternative Fuel Vehicle Assistance Program. In an effort to reduce the consumption of gasoline and increase vehicle use efficiency, this program offers supplemental cost assistance to college departments, individual offices or university fleets.

Benefits of the Program:

  • Cost reduction related to fuel consumption
  • Greenhouse gas emission reductions
  • Detailed analysis of a vehicle’s use and purpose, possibly leading to a vehicle reallocation/alteration or outright removal from the fleet if found inefficient and excessive (determination made by participant).

Program Overview:

The majority of alternative vehicles typically cost $5,000 – $10,000 more than a typical gasoline vehicle and these funds would assist whomever is interested in purchasing one by offsetting these costs. For example, if a department wishes to pursue a gasoline engine vehicle at a cost of $20,000 and an alternative fuel vehicle is available (that can serve the same purpose of a gasoline vehicle) at a cost of $30,000, this fund would provide $10,000 to the applicant to offset the higher cost. In addition, this program will fund the infrastructure to support the alternative fuel vehicle; electric vehicle charging stations, etc.

Alternative Fuel Vehicle Options:

  • Electric Vehicles
  • Liquid Propane Vehicles or Liquid Propane “Upfits”
  • Hybrids
  • Compressed Natural Gas
  • Equipment: Utility cars, lawnmowers, etc.
