Happy International Compost Awareness Week! Composting is an easy way to get your hands dirty with sustainability right in your own backyard. Starting your own compost site is a great way to spend time outdoors, and did you know UT has an industrial compost facility? Our campus composting facilities are utilized daily to make UT greener. Read on to learn more about composting!


We are excited to announce that after months of planning, UT Recycling is merging with the Office of Sustainability. The merger is an attempt to achieve carefully considered goals related to facilities management and sustainability at UT.


At a recent UT Science Forum, Dr. Melissa Hinten, the academic director of the sustainability program at the University of Tennessee, gave a presentation titled “Solving the World’s Wicked Problems Through Local Sustainability Initiatives.” In Hinten’s words, “…sustainability is the intersection of society, environment, and the economy.”


2019 marked the fourth annual celebration of Arbor Day, culminating in over 700 trees planted with over 250 volunteers. These events have been funded through the Green Fee and developed by the Facilities Services Arboricultural team.
