Preston Jacobsen

Sustainability Manager

Preston has a BS in Environmental Sciences from Western Carolina University with a focus in Hydrology and Sustainability. Preston has worked in sustainability since 2010 and led Haywood Community College in WNC to become the greenest community college in the NC system (58 overall), implementing various operational practices to reduce waste, produce alternative energy, and create a living laboratory experience for students and the community. Background work includes teaching Biodiesel production, local community engagement, and bringing cost savings to academic settings, with a focus on environmental protection.

Greg_Campbell-CohenGreg Campbell-Cohen

Program Coordinator

Born in Northern Virginia, Greg attended the University of Edinburgh and earned a Master of Arts with Honors in History & Politics, specializing in critical theory and political history. While earning his degree, Greg served as a peer mentor, a class representative, and an officer with the Edinburgh University North American Society. After work, you can find Greg combing through record crates, playing ultimate frisbee, or cooking at home. He’s looking forward to working with the many student groups on campus to develop new and improve current sustainability initiatives.

Alexis EconieAlexis Econie

Data Analysis Coordinator

Alexis graduated cum laude from Illinois State University in spring 2017 with a BS in Sociology, a BS in Communication, and certifications in Corporate Communication and Human Resources Management. During her undergraduate education, Alexis was active in the Honors Program, served as a Teaching Assistant for three professors, worked as a research assistant and a lab director for two professors, was inducted as a member of Alpha Kappa Delta sociology honor society, was Public Relations Coordinator for Alpha Gamma Delta social sorority, served as President of Lambda Pi Eta communication honor fraternity, and was a 2016 recipient of the Robert G. Bone Scholarship. Alexis also studied abroad at the Novancia International Business School in Paris, France and successfully completed a socio-environmental research internship for the National Science Foundation in Wisconsin. In the Office of Sustainability, Alexis works to collect and analyze data from the university’s operations to report and apply campus outputs in a meaningful and environmentally impactful way. Alexis is also currently applying to MS/PhD programs for environmental sociology. In her free time, she enjoys reading and writing, drinking coffee, and taking care of her houseplants.

CarolynCarolyn Brown

Sustainability Outreach Coordinator

Originally from Philadelphia, PA, Carolyn went to school at Allegheny College, located in Meadville, PA. While there she majored in Environmental Studies and minored in Spanish and Global Health. A fun fact about Carolyn is she swam all four years in college on the varsity team (Go gators!). This year, Carolyn is most excited to educate the community on the importance of making orange green.
