Recycling

As an operational entity within Building Services, UT Recycling works closely with the Office of Sustainability to constantly promote sustainable living throughout our community. Founded in 1993, UT Recycling provides quality recycling services to all campus buildings and makes continuing strides to reduce all forms of waste on campus. UT Recycling not only provides recycling and collection services, but actively participates in educational programs, special projects, and development of sustainable practices and planning on the university level.

Unlike most university recycling programs, UT Recycling collects all the waste itself from individual campus buildings and distributes it to the appropriate recycling vendors and recovery facilities, ensuring the university is receiving the highest possible returns for our recycling efforts.

As more people are discovering recycling is a necessity to ensure the longevity of our environment, UT Recycling is continually expanding the materials and services for recycling wastes on campus. Some of the many things we recycle here at the University of Tennessee are listed below.

  • Paper
  • Plastic bottles
  • Aluminum cans
  • Cardboard
  • Food waste
  • Pallets
  • Electronic waste
  • Fluorescent and compact fluorescent lamps
