POWER Challenge

2012 P.O.W.E.R. Challenge Award Ceremony for Massey Hall

2012 POWER Challenge Award Ceremony for Massey Hall

A UT tradition since 2005, the Make Orange Green POWER Challenge is a month-long competition that pits UT residence halls against each other in a battle to see which hall is the greenest. (POWER stands for Programs of Water, Energy, and Recycling.)

The POWER Challenge kicks off in October, and halls are scored according to their weekly water and electricity consumption, recycling totals, and educational program activity. Scoring updates and competition tips are posted throughout the month to the Office of Sustainability Facebook page.

The residence hall with the most points at the end of October wins the POWER Challenge—along with bragging rights, the “Mo Green” trophy, and a party with refreshments and entertainment.

Get Involved

To participate with the POWER Challenge, talk with your Eco-Vols, resident assistant, or hall director to plan a program. You can help your hall’s cause by taking actions to conserve resources and reduce waste—take shorter showers, turn off lights and electronics when you’re not using them, hang your clothes to dry, etc. For more suggestions on how to support the POWER Challenge, like us on Facebook.
